In September 2025, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea’s HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) to strengthen India’s shipbuilding sector. The MoU was exchanged at the Samudra se Samriddhi – Transforming India’s Maritime Sector event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, in the presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur.
- The collaboration combines CSL’s domestic expertise with HD KSOE’s advanced global shipbuilding technology. This long-term association is expected to boost India’s shipbuilding competitiveness, enabling the country to develop world-class vessels while strengthening maritime self-reliance.
- CSL’s 310-metre dry dock will be utilized to construct large commercial vessels such as Suezmax tankers, container ships, and Capesize bulk carriers. The dock will support a production capacity of up to six such vessels annually, positioning CSL as a major global shipbuilding hub.
