Punjab National Bank (PNB) Becomes 1st PSB in India to Migrate to ‘.bank.in’ Domain.

Banking & Finance

In August 2025, Punjab National Bank (PNB), India’s 2nd largest Public Sector Bank (PSB), became the first Indian PSB to migrate its corporate website to the secure ‘.bank.in’ domain. This step was taken in line with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) April 2025 circular to strengthen cybersecurity in digital banking.

      - Punjab National Bank (PNB) has migrated its corporate website from the earlier www.pnb.bank.co.in to the new https://pnb.bank.in domain, making it the first Indian PSB to adopt this digital shift. This move marks an important milestone in India’s efforts to combat digital banking frauds.

      - The initiative follows the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directive that mandated Indian banks to transition their corporate websites to the new secure ‘.bank.in’ domain. RBI issued this notification in April 2025 to create a more secure digital ecosystem for financial institutions.

Main Point :-   (i) The exclusive registrar for the ‘.bank.in’ domain is the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), which will oversee domain registrations, compliance, and safety measures. This ensures that only authorized Indian banks can use the domain.

(ii) The primary aim of this domain migration is to strengthen cybersecurity, reduce risks of phishing attacks, and boost public confidence in digital banking. In addition, RBI is also planning to introduce ‘.fin.in’ as a dedicated domain for non-bank financial entities, ensuring uniform security standards across the financial sector.
