DPIIT Signs MoU with Thermo Fisher Scientific to Boost Biotech Startup Innovation in India.

On October 1, 2025, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS), a global leader in life sciences tools and services, to strengthen India’s biotechnology startup ecosystem and accelerate innovation.


      - The partnership between DPIIT and Thermo Fisher Scientific aims to support over 500 biotechnology startups across India within three years through strategic advisory, access to technology, mentorship programs, and investor networking to promote innovation-driven growth.

      - Under the collaboration, TFS and DPIIT’s Bharat Startup Grand Challenge (BSGC) will jointly launch BioVerse, an integrated platform designed to identify, mentor, and fund promising biotech entrepreneurs, fostering a sustainable innovation ecosystem.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The BioVerse Challenge will identify and support 100 top-performing biotech startups by offering mentorship, access to advanced Research and Development (R&D) facilities, and investor connections to help commercialize their innovations.

      (ii) The BioVerse Mentors Circle will train 400 additional startups in biotech entrepreneurship, while the BioVerse Alumni Network will continue to offer long-term mentorship, guidance, and funding support for sustained business development.

(iii) This strategic collaboration aligns with the Startup India initiative and DPIIT’s vision to make India a global hub for biotechnology innovation, promoting entrepreneurship, research excellence, and technological advancement in the life sciences sector.
