Veteran Indian Cricketer Piyush Chawla Retires from All Formats of the Game.

On June 6, 2025, Indian leg-spinner Piyush Pramod Chawla announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket. Chawla, known for his crafty leg-spin, was a key member of India’s World Cup-winning squads in both the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup.


      - Over the span of his illustrious career, he amassed more than 1,000 wickets across all professional formats, leaving behind a legacy of consistency and skill.

      - Piyush Chawla made his Test debut in 2006 against England at just 17 years and 75 days, becoming India’s second-youngest male debutant after Sachin Tendulkar. He later debuted in ODIs in 2007 against Bangladesh, claiming 3 wickets, and in T20Is in 2010 against South Africa.

      - Chawla represented India in 3 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 7 T20 Internationals, securing a total of 43 wickets across formats during his international career.

Main Point :-   (i) In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and Mumbai Indians (MI) from 2008 to 2024.

      (ii) As of June 2025, Chawla has taken 192 IPL wickets, making him the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history, alongside Sunil Narine, behind Yuzvendra Chahal (221) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (198).

(iii) He was part of IPL-winning squads with CSK in 2021 and with KKR in both 2022 and 2024, marking a successful franchise cricket journey.
