Dharmendra Pradhan Unveils ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ Initiative in New Delhi.

On 5th June 2025, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education (MoE), launched the second phase of the initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ in New Delhi, Delhi, marking a significant step towards environmental consciousness and sustainability.
- During the event, he also unveiled Special Learning Modules, Eco Clubs for the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) web portal, and a dedicated microsite, aiming to integrate environmental education and green practices into everyday life.
- The launch ceremony was attended by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for Education and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MoS, MoE & MDONER), along with other senior officials and stakeholders committed to environmental and educational development.
- ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ is a nationwide environmental initiative that encourages individuals to plant a tree in honor of their mother. The second phase aims to plant 10 crore trees across India, building on the success of the earlier phase in Haryana, where 1.8 crore saplings were planted.
Main Point :- (i) ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ initiative launched Special Modules to enhance environmental education, Eco Clubs in schools to create climate awareness, and a microsite allowing participants to upload selfies with their saplings, promoting community participation and tracking tree plantation progress.
(ii) Mission LiFE, introduced by PM Narendra Modi at COP26 Glasgow 2021, aims to mobilize at least one billion people worldwide to adopt sustainable lifestyles through individual and collective actions during 2022-2028 for global environmental protection.
(iii) The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) developed two digital portals—Mission LiFE and Meri LiFE—to provide resources, enable community engagement, and efficiently monitor and track the progress of environmental activities across India under Mission LiFE.
