NSO Unveils ‘EnviStats India 2025’ Report on Key Environmental Indicators.

On 5 June 2025, the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the 8th edition of its flagship environmental publication titled "EnviStats India 2025: Environment Statistics".


      The release took place during the National Workshop on Using Alternate Data Sources and Frontier Technologies for Policy Making held in New Delhi.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Since 2018, NSO has been publishing EnviStats India in accordance with the UN's Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES) 2013.

      (ii) Thermal Power Generation surged from 7,92,053 GWh to 13,26,549 GWh, while renewable energy-based electricity generation rose sharply from 65,520 GWh to 2,25,835 GWh between 2013–14 and 2023–24.

(iii) Inland fish production more than doubled, increasing from 61.36 lakh tonnes to 139.07 lakh tonnes over the same period—indicating significant growth in aquaculture and freshwater fisheries.
