Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof Steps Down Following PVV's Exit from Ruling Coalition.

Appointment

On June 3, 2025, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof announced his resignation after the far-right Party for Freedom (PVV), led by Geert Wilders, withdrew from the ruling coalition government.

      - PM Schoof submitted his resignation to King Willem-Alexander and will continue to serve in a caretaker capacity until a new government is formed following elections.

      - The Dutch coalition government, formed in July 2024, collapsed after serving less than a year due to internal disagreements, especially over asylum and immigration policies.

      - The ruling coalition included four parties: PVV, People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), New Social Contract (NSC), and the Farmer-Citizen Movement (BBB).

Main Point :-   (i) The caretaker cabinet can only make decisions on non-controversial or urgent matters, such as national security and support for Ukraine, while major policy decisions require parliamentary approval.

(ii) Despite the political crisis, the Netherlands will host the NATO Summit on June 24, 2025, under the leadership of the caretaker government.
