World No Tobacco Day Observed on 31 May 2025.

Important Days

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is annually observed on May 31 across the globe to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to advocate for effective strategies to reduce its consumption. The global observance is led by the World Health Organization (WHO), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

      - The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2025 is "Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products."

      - This theme sheds light on how the tobacco and nicotine industries craft their products and use misleading marketing strategies—particularly aimed at the youth—to sustain addiction and profits.

Main Point :-   (i) In 1987, the Member States of WHO initiated WNTD to raise awareness of preventable diseases and deaths caused by tobacco.

(ii) The World Health Assembly (WHA) adopted Resolution WHA40.38 in 1987, declaring April 7, 1988, as the first "World No-Smoking Day".

(iii) A year later, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, which designated May 31 as the official date for World No Tobacco Day to be observed annually.
